I work individually and with groups and have worked as a therapist in the NHS and in the private and voluntary sectors for more than 20 years.

I am setting up a group on Wednesday evenings 6.45-8.15pm. This is a mixed group and will be helpful if you suffer with depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, bereavement and loss. The group will also be helpful if you would like to find out more about yourself or you would like help with relationships.

The model of therapy I use in my work is informed by psychoanalytic and attachment theories. The psychoanalytic approach focusses on both past and present difficulties and pays particular attention to confidentiality and respect for the client.

The unconscious parts of the mind, or the inner world, can lead to difficulties in relationships, in behaviour and in mood, and the psychoanalytic approach looks at the reflection of the unconscious, as it shows itself in the relationship with the therapist.

Psychotherapy can be helpful for specific problems such as eating disorders, abuse, bereavement, self-harm, worries about exams, relationship difficulties and difficulties at work. Brief focussed psychotherapy can be helpful for these difficulties.

In my work as a therapist I have seen how our earliest attachment bonds and difficulties form patterns that may have an impact that continues with us throughout life. In a longer-term therapy these patterns show themselves in the therapy so that they can be better understood and worked through.

In this way psychotherapy can be helpful for more deep-seated problems such as low self-esteem, depression, fear and anxiety, or a loss of meaning in life.

I have found that success in therapy relies on a good working alliance and commitment by both myself and my client. I am deeply committed to my clients and work hard to foster an alliance where trust and reliability are central to the therapy.

Sometimes short-term therapy is enough, and sometimes clients prefer a more long-term and exploratory therapy. I provide one or two introductory or assessment sessions so we can decide together whether my approach will be helpful for you.
