The first group that you ever experienced is the one that you were born in to ....your birth family of origin.
From then on you have continued to experience groups throughout your life - sometimes feeling part of the 'group' (eg, at home, work or leisure) and perhaps sometimes believing that you do not belong.
In groups most of us assume familiar identities and roles. Group therapy provides the space and opportunity for you to explore the ways in which you relate to other people, with the aim of increasing self-awareness and improving your relationships.
One of the main interpersonal aims of having therapy in a group setting is for you to have healthy emotional experiences of both giving and receiving help and ultimately for you to relate to others more honestly and deeply.
