What is Psychosynthesis?

Psychosynthesis is an approach to counselling and psychotherapy which takes account of the whole person- body, mind, feelings, sexuality and spirituality.

Whilst focusing on the issues that bring a person to therapy, it also seeks to reveal what might be unfolding at a deeper level.

In acknowledging and working with the effect the past has had on a person's life, psychosynthesis also recognises and encourages the exploration of the unrealised potential alive within each of us.

Roberto Assagioli the founder of psychosynthesis made the discovery that not all distress was rooted in the past. Many problems arise because of a lack of meaning and purpose, emptiness, alienation and unfulfilled potential.

Psychosynthesis teaches that every individual has a part that is seeking to grow towards wholeness but that this growth can be blocked due to past experiences and that during the course of therapy these blocks can be removed.

Psychosynthesis integrates psychodynamic, humanistic and transpersonal theory into a complete psychospiritual psychology.

'Man's spiritual development is a long and arduous journey, an adventure through strange lands full of surprises, difficulties and even dangers. It involves a drastic transmutation of the 'normal' elements of the personality, an awakening of potentialities hitherto dormant, a raising of conciousness to new realms, and a functioning along a new inner dimension'
